Answers about heat pumps, aircon, rebates and the Solar Haven install process.
General
What products does Solar Haven install?
Three things, done well: rooftop solar paired with home batteries, heat-pump hot water systems, and reverse-cycle air conditioning. We're Victorian electrification specialists — design, install, paperwork and rebates all under one roof.
Which rebates can Solar Haven access?
Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU), NSW Energy Saver Scheme (ESS), Federal Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) including the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, and Federal STC certificates. We lodge every form on your behalf.
Where do you operate?
Our office is in Derrimut, Victoria. We service Melbourne metro, Geelong, Ballarat, Phillip Island — anywhere in Victoria. We also service eligible NSW postcodes for hot water and battery installs.
Do you handle the rebate paperwork?
Yes — every applicable rebate is lodged by our team. You fill in one short booking form and we take care of the rest, including site assessment photos, eligibility forms and STC creation.
How long does a typical install take?
Heat-pump hot water: same-day, 3 to 6 hours. Single-split aircon: one day. Ducted aircon: one to two days. Solar + battery: one to two days. We give you an accurate timeline at the free site assessment.
Hot Water Heat Pumps
What's a heat-pump hot water system and why is it better than my electric tank?
A heat pump extracts energy from the surrounding air and uses it to heat your water — like an air conditioner in reverse. It uses about 70% less electricity than a standard electric tank, which directly cuts your bill and your carbon footprint.
Will I really pay $0 out of pocket?
Eligible Victorian and NSW homeowners can get a heat-pump installed for $0 upfront thanks to combined Federal STC and Victorian VEU (or NSW ESS) rebates. Eligibility depends on your existing system, address, and a quick site check — we confirm in 2 minutes.
Will the heat pump still work in Victorian winters?
Yes. Our heat-pump systems are rated for Australian climates including Victorian winters. They run efficiently well below freezing — you'll have hot water on the coldest Ballarat morning of the year.
Aircon
How much can I save switching from gas heating to reverse-cycle aircon?
Recent research shows electric reverse-cycle split systems are more than 60% cheaper to run than gas ducted heating for a typical 3-bedroom Victorian home. You also stop paying daily gas connection fees.
Are there rebates on aircon installs?
Yes — eligible Victorian homes can claim up to $8,500 in combined rebates through the VEU program. We handle the eligibility check and lodge the paperwork.
Ducted, multi-split, or single-split — which one do I need?
Depends on your floor plan, insulation and which rooms you actually use. Our specialist sizes the system at the free site assessment. We work with Midea, Rinnai, Daikin and Mitsubishi — choice based on your home, not a preferred supplier.
Solar + Batteries
What's the payback period on a solar install?
Most Solar Haven solar customers see payback in under 2 years thanks to rising grid prices and Federal STC credits we pass on in full. The system keeps generating free electricity for 25+ years after that.
How does the Cheaper Home Batteries Program work?
From 1 July 2025 the Federal government cuts up to 30% off the install cost of home batteries via STCs. The rebate covers the first 50 kWh of usable battery capacity and stacks on top of state incentives. The credit decreases each year until 2030, so earlier is better.
Do I have to install solar and a battery at the same time?
No. Plenty of customers start with solar-only and add a battery later once they've seen their generation profile. Others do both in one install to capture the full Federal rebate stack before the 2026 step-down. We'll model both options at your free assessment so you can pick on the actual numbers.
What size system do I need?
Depends on your roof, your usage pattern and your goals. A typical 4-person Victorian home runs well on 6.6–10 kW of solar plus a 10–13 kWh battery. We size to your actual consumption — never sell you a bigger system to pad the invoice.
Will my battery keep the lights on in a blackout?
Yes, if it's configured for backup. Most modern home batteries (Tesla Powerwall, Sungrow, Sigenergy) include an islanding/backup mode that keeps essential circuits running when the grid drops. We'll spec it for your home at the design stage.
